I know that a lot of you here at Host PC are guys and this site won't be quite in the area of your liking because it's for women but if you have a few minutes I would like to get some general feedback and critisizm. Areas that work, areas that should be fixed or changed. That sort of thing. Be honest but be kind. :) This is only my second "real" html site and my first experience with style sheets. My first experience with a few details actually. I have a way to go yet so all of the links don't work, but enough of them for you to get the general idea. If anything looks whacky just tell me. I've had the experience before of it looking fine in my browser but all jumbled and such in someone elses.

Cafe' She Women's Online Magazine (http://www.myonlinemagazine.net)

Thanks up front for the feedback guys. ;)

 <<< Me hiding behind the curtains just incase it's really bad. LOL

It displays ok in IE but not Firefox. Validating HTML (http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myonlinemagazine.net%2F index.php) and CSS (http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.myonlinemagazine.ne t%2Fcafeshe.css&usermedium=all) show a number of errors, but nothing jumped out at me as being terrible. I always validate when experimenting and testing new things.

I like the color choices, but the pure white background of the text areas seems too strong. Maybe use the lightest color in the grades on your buttons as the background. You're using the marquee tag? No, no, no. In the title I would use a typographically correct apostraphe (’ not '); those things drive me nuts. The smaller script lettering (on the buttons) is a little tough to read.

Hope that helps!

Dan

All easy things to fix dan, thanks for the feed back. I had changed the to white from #FFFAF0(the light color in the buttons) because I thought it would be easier to read. LOLOL I'll just change it back. The (typographically correct apostraphe (’ not ')). I just overlooked doing that I suppose. I do still need to validate the html and css. Just haven't gotten there yet but thanks for the reminder. :) I have been busy learning as I go with alot of things on the site. The buttons and small text, I keep trying to fix but it is proving to be a pain in the hiney. The marqee tag, do you possibly have an alternate suggestion? I would really like something like it on the site. See, feedback is a good thing. :)

eh, too girly. :D

Seriously tho, on my DSL connection it took quite a while for all the images to load...yikes...and yeah, Firefox layout is really messed up.

It looks really good in IE, although I would suggest adding boxes around the links on the left like you have done on the right. Number one for semetry and number two to make them stand out more.

As stated by Dan using FireFox the layout gets really whacky in other browsers. In my case it got really whacky when viewed with Mozilla.

It's a good start though...

Hmmmm, will have to check into the foxfire and mozilla thing. Don't know anything about that stuff. I had borders around the left navBar at the beginning of this process. LOL Will have to change that back as well. I might see if I can make it look right without the images also, since they are being such a pain. Find some other alternative solution. :) And Dan; I just posted that comment in hiveminds today. I was joking around about giving specifics about a poetry page I wanted to build because all you guys might think I was being such a girly girl. LOLOL Oh well, I've earned the right to be a girly girl if I want to. :D  :D

FYI, it's MUCH easier to code for Mozilla, then implement IE fixes rather than build for IE then add Mozilla fixes.

FireFox is the better browser anyway, by a longshot, especially for developers, as the "Web Developer" toolbar extension is extremely useful.
