Www18 - Outage

The www18.hostpc.com server is down. This outage affects all services on that server. We're working with the datacenter to get it back up. More details to follow.

www18 is back online. Outage duration appears to have been 40 minutes, beginning at around 11:00AM Eastern.

I'd just like to add, I was personally away from the office for about one hour this morning when this happened, but our helpdesk and IRC is staffed 24x7.

Someone (one person) chose to call me FOURTEEN times, and every time I picked up, there was no one there. I happen to have been in a doctors office when those calls came in. The phone was turned off after the 3rd call - but they kept coming.

In the future, if we do not answer, there's usually a very good reason for it

1) we're busy fixing the issue
2) we're not available to take your call (others may be calling, etc)

There's a helpdesk in place to open helpdesk tickets 24x7 ... and IRC where any one of the technicians could have reset this server - had they been alerted in the correct manner, this downtime could have been significantly less. It only took 5 minutes to reboot once we were correctly notified.

Please - in the future - use the appropriate help options.... if we dont answer the phone, there's usually a very good reason for it.
