I've been experimenting with the mig program that Joe suggested.. has anybody been able to get the mkGalllery.pl program to work?? The problem is, it needs to be in the same directory as the pictures and that isn't possible with the Ensim cgi/perl directory situation...

Yes, I have you need to run it from the shell line like this : ../utilities/mkGallery.pl -rantcv that will process only new pictures and add the comment files os that you can add comments to the pictures. If you have any other questions, I have been playing around with the program a little.

To avoid the major reason why Gallery is such a problem program, yes. I have configured the contributed php file that a user has provided the owner to do this via a web interface, but because its being run by the webserver it has the same problems that gallery has with file permissions and ownership.

This is the program that this thread about other options was written about. It's the problems with how Gallery does many things that the other options presented here don't have. I like the program but because of the creators self-righteous attitude and other issues with the program that this thread was created.

Ah, sorry about that. Its such a nice program too, very easy to install and use.

Could you explain or direct me to what you mean by self-righteous attitudes and/or issues so I may understand the reason for not using this?
