Update:

We're continuing to have issues with www12 and www18 from this event. Everyone still assigned to these servers needs to be moved IMMEDIATELY to a new server. We're starting that process now.

If you have a backup of your site, and would like to speed this process up, open a helpdesk ticket and we'll get you accomodated ASAP.

Thank you.

Joe

I'm aware of an issue on www18, I tried rebooting the server, but it's not responding. I believe the issue is it needing a manual FSCK (File system check).

I've contacted the datacenter and they're working on the issue now.

Thanks for your patience, I hope to have service restored shortly.

Word from the datacenter is that the drive isn't looking so good right now. We're waiting for the final results - but we fully expect, at this time, to be 100% back online shortly. Please subscribe to this thread for the latest announcements.

Datacenter is reporting that there appears to be major issues with the filesystem on this server.

I'm starting the process of restoring backups to another server immediately

More details shortly.

Datacenter is reporting that the drive is unstable - I will NOT take chances with it.

I'm restoring data from the backups dated about 7pm ET last night to a new server.

All clients must update their DNS to:

CONTACT US

This is a newly reformatted server.

Restores will be completed in less than 2hrs (estimated). Sites will not show up until then.

Ok, final update.

This server was rebuilt with new SATA drives.... I restored all data to this server AND www12

If you already updated DNS to www12, you're fine. If you have NOT updated, you're fine too.

If you are NOT going to move to www12, please open a helpdesk ticket and tell us so we can free drive space for other users, or email me at joe@hostpc.com

we've got some final tweaking to do on this server, if you encounter any issues, let us know.

If you have NOT changed your DNS, DONT....

There appears to be some data inconsistencies with the data in the backups, indicating that perhaps the problem was happening during the time of the last backup. Stay on www18 if you haven't changed yet.

Open a helpdesk ticket with any issues please

Ok, last followup, I promise, unless there are questions.

1. The drives that are corrupted appear to have corrupted just before, or during the backup procedure last evening. This has resulted in unreliable backups. How will we resolve? add another day to the backup routine to have multi-day backups.

2. As a result of the corrupt backups, not all data is restorable. MOST is - but not all. In particular, we're missing several (I believe) mysql databases. We try _very_ hard to prepare for issues like this, but unfortunately, computers being what they are, it's never perfect. Please upload your backups to your website and restore the information you have available.

3. Some domains have not resolved. If yours is NOT resolving, please open a helpdesk ticket - but before you do, be sure your DNS is pointing to www18 as stated in the previous post.

4. Installatron will be re-added to this server later this weekend, again, the priority is to get the server back online and stable.

Through this mess, we've received several positive comments (and a few nasties) ... we listen to and appreciate all feedback.

Any customer on www12 or www18 is encouraged to open a helpdesk ticket and we'll adjust your account for ONE FREE MONTH to compensate you for this extended "issue".

Please provide your domain name, email address and if possible a copy of your billing receipt (or just let us know how you paid) - we'll adjust your account manually.

Thank you.

Okay, now I'm really confused. I just got an email saying the following:

www12 has developed some problems carried over from
www18. We are moving all accounts off of www12 to
www32. Many of these accoutns where done
automatically. Your however needs to be done manually.

The new account has been created on www32 and the
setup instructions have been emailed to this address.

You can move your data using the backup.restore
feature through Direct Admin
http://www.site-helper.com/backup.html , and then you
will need to update your DNS setting with your
domain's registrar. If you purchased your domain name
through us we can most likely change the dns settings
for you.

But, unlike previous messages, there is no IP address info (like: your new DNS is xx.xxx.xx.xxx or "The server IP address is: 72.35.71.113" or whatever)

It also:
- has misspellings/grammatical errors
- indicates that while others were moved automatically, mine was not.
- It was also addressed to a domain that's not the default domain for the the email address it was sent to.
- While the previous emails that related to this thread indicated my login name, this one is just sent to my email address
- It tells me that a 'new account' has been created for me, but I know nothing about that

Unfortunately, these are all signs of phishing emails (the kind you get from eBay and PayPal all the time) so before I go changing anything, I thought I'd post here.

I was originally on one of the servers that this thread is about. I then "immediately" moved and changed my DNS info, and then got the email telling me NOT to move if I hadn't already. Now I get this email.

So:
Currently the IP for my domains on this account is: 72.35.71.113
Do I need to move my websites?
Do I need to change all my DNS entries again?
Has some new account been set up for me as indicated in the email?

I'd really rather not do this again if it's not necessary.
Please advise.

EDIT: Okay, upon checking my email again, I now have one with the subject "Your account for xxxxxxxx.com is ready for use", and lists my correct login name along with an IP address that resolves to www32.hostpc.com so I guess this is for real and I need to make the move from 12 to 32. Off to do the moving...

2nd EDIT: I moved all my goodies. Used the "backup" and "restore backup" functions and (besides getting erors until I manually created a 'backup' folder on my new account) it was all pretty darn easy.

www18.hostpc.com IP addr: 198.87.87.18
www12.hostpc.com IP addr: 72.35.71.113
www32.hostpc.com IP addr: 199.237.54.205

Sorry for my poor grammer and spelling :( I'm better at getting things done then making things pretty :(

I did send a few out from my personal email account rather then my hostpc account. I didn't include IP address info as there wasn't really a need. Domains tha needed to be moved where already resolving to the server and by the time they resolved to the new server the data should already have been moved. So accessing by IP wouldn't be needed.

Sorry for any confusion this has caused anyone :(

No offense on the spelling/grammar issues. It just added to my "is this for real?" concerns.

The DNS info for (some of) my HostPC domains is held elsewhere, so my sites were still pointing to the old server, since that's what my A, CNAME & MX records tell them to do.

No sweat man. The fact that I happened to also be logged into my account on the OLD server when I got the email just made it even more confusing. But it's all worked out.

Thanks

I'm glad you pointed this out... I need to slow down and think stuff like this through. And proof read! My communication skills are a reflection of myself, but when I'm doing it under the umbrella of HostPC it is a reflection of Joe as well.

Last call. There's about 15 accounts left that have not moved yet. We can help you move, but we can not update your DNS ... PLEASE, open a helpdesk ticket. I'm planning on taking this server offline for formatting Friday or Saturday this week.

I am moving all data from www12 to www32 as I write this. I am also updating the DNS entries that I can. If I can't update it your account will show suspended. Please update your DNS to: ns32a.hostpc.com and ns32b.hostpc.com when the DNS resolves (usually a few minutes) your domain will be active again.
