DA makes it very easy to move an entire account from one DA server to another DA server.

If you need to move for any reason here's the steps.

1) Make sure the new server acct has the SAME username as the old one. If you're login id on the old server is "smith00", then it needs to be "smith00" on the new one.

2) Log into the DA control panel on the old server. Go to the "Create/Restore Backups" feature. Make sure that all the checkboxes are selected and click on the "Create Backup" button.

3) Once the backup is completed (can take from a minute to several depending on the size of your account), a link will appear allowing you to download the file. Do that and save it on you're local machine.

4) On the NEW server, log into the DA control panel. Again, click on the "Create/Restore Backups" link and click the "Create Backup" button. It will go very quickly. You don't need to download it, this step is only needed to create the /backup folder.

5) Using FTP, login to the new server using the server IP (it will be in the Welcome Email) and upload the backup you created from the old server to the /backup folder. Don't worry if the file already exists, you can overwrite it, or simply rename it.

6) Once the upload is complete, return to the Create/Restore Backups section and refresh it if necessary. The new file should be listed in the Restore section at the bottom (drop down box). Select it and click on restore and follow the prompts. The restore will take anywhere from a few minutes to several depending on size of your backups.

7) Once the restore is complete, verify that everything looks good. It should restore your email, email settings (forwarders, auto-responders, etc), your databases, files, etc., completely.

Then go to your registrar and update your nameservers to the new server.

That's it. Wait about 15mins and you should start hitting the new server and everything should work at is did before.

Once you are satisfied it's all working, contact the helpdesk and ask that the old account be removed.

You can't change the username. Open a helpdesk ticket and ask for it to be changed to what you need.

I just found out that my site has not been accessible for the past week and I was told I need to update the name server. My question is:

How to update the name server? This thread talks about new server, old server, I am completely confused since I don't know what this "new" and "old" is about. How do I login to "new" server?

If some one can point me to a thread that talks about all this, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

I'd suggest opening a helpdesk ticket concerning this.

You can usually find what server you were on by looking at the DNS entries for that server in a whois lookup - http://www.whois.net

The DNS entries will typically tell you

nsXXX.hostpc.com - where XXX is the server # you're assigned to.

You would update your DNS where you registered your domain. If that was through HostPC, we can do it for you - please open a helpdesk ticket.
