I am asking about this publicly rather than putting in a ticket because I don't know how many are actually on the php5 servers and are willing to test the newer versions. I don't want to put anyone in a fix with a live and important site by asking that this be done in secret.

The server I am on now is running php 5.0.2 and in the last months there have been no issues that could not be fixed by adhering to the coding paradigm set for php5. But now I would like to try the latest version (5.1.1) because significant changes have been made in security and the coding paradigm. This would be to see just how far applications like joomla, mambo ,Drupal and phpAdsNew are away from being functional and to see if there is anything I can break ;)

Since MySQL 5 is production ready and is supposedly faster stronger and less resource hungery. I would like to run some testing with it also. Mostly because of the newer connection types and other functions directlly associated with php 5 usage.

After they calm down a bit with their releases, we'll consider upgrading...

5.0.5 came out...
php 5.1.0 on 11/25/05
PHP 5.1.1 on 11/29

that's a crazier schedule than phpBB (if thats possible).

Let's let it simmer down a bit, then I'll revisit the subject

LOL,

I figured you'd say that but thought to plant a seed about it anyway.

but how about MySQL 5 ?

or PostGreSQL ?

or Firebird?

something with transaction capabilities.

I just tried to do an install and found that the server still has php5.0.2 even though you said that php5 had been killed for lack of interest and all servers were back to php4. I would like to have the latest version of php5 or go back to php4.

Should I put in a ticket for a move to php4 or is the upgrade something that can happen?
