View Full Version : Question About Junk Mail

Over the last few months, I've noticed something odd.

I have my site here configured to send mail to my home mail server and then to HostPC if my server is unavailable. This is set up in the MX records.

In the event that some mail went to the HostPC server, I have a POP account loaded in my e-mail client. At least once a day, I have to hit send and receive to check if anything might've gone to HostPC instead directly to home.

This is what I find weird. I usually have at least 1-2 messages sitting in my account on the HostPC server, but they're usually spam. In fact, I'm not sure if I've ever received a legitimate e-mail from the HostPC server since I set up the mail server downstairs.

My question is actually just speculation... could my home server be rejecting the mail, so it goes to HostPC instead? I thought if the server set as the primary MX actually rejected the e-mail, it would be considered undeliverable.

The other possible cause I noted would be if the spammers themselves are somehow hitting the server at mail.cabuzzi.com, since that's what my domain name is. The server set at my primary MX is flapjack.yi.org, which doesn't lend you to believe it's associated with cabuzzi.com

Any ideas?

This is a known spammer trick. They send spam directly to the secondary MX.
