View Full Version : Squirrel Still Not Working

Well, it's been a month now, and we *still* have no working webmail solution.

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /var/www/html/squirrelmail-1.4.5/src/read_body.php on line 431

...with squirrelmail. Before, we had a different error, which still occurrs frequently but isn't as critical.

Helpdesk support says at various times that it's a known issue, that it's an issue that they're working on, that it's an issue that has been solved for everyone else so they're not sure why it's happening to us, and (recently) that it's a Dovecot issue and we should move our several sites to a new server. How will that help, if it's a Dovecot problem and all of the servers are running Dovecot? If it's a Dovecot problem, is anyone else experiencing it?

Hoping for some clarification...I must say I'm detecting a general drift in the quality of helpdesk support since this Dovecot problem came up. I've never had this much trouble getting concrete / accurate answers on an issue at HostPC before.

D.

Edit: The reason this bothers me is that my organization has, effectively, had *no* webmail functionality for over a month now, which I consider unacceptable. HostPC's handling of this has also left much to be desired so far, since their responses have tended towards being perfunctory and we have yet to receive a working solution...though all of our helpdesk tickets are promptly closed. What's up?

Dave.

I haven't seen any tickets from you concerning this... can you send me, via email or ticket, a login to show the problem you're experiencing - this is the first I've heard of it.

I have a few closed helpdesk tickets on various squirrelmail problems, as does my boss. I'm opening another one with the specific info for this error, w/ username / pass.

Thanks for the prompt response, Joe.

Helpdesk ticket opened, screenshot of problem mailed to Joe.

Will post resolution here if anyone else is affected...am I the only unlucky one?

Dave.

Until your webmail is fixed you can go to
http://www.mail2web.com to access your email.
It will allow you to access your pop3 email via the web.
Just click on the Advanced Login
I would also do it through secure login.
Hope this helps!!

Hmmm...will look into it, but I'm worried there'll be conflicts since I'm using IMAP on several scattered Tbird accounts. Last time I tried using webmail (IMAP) and Tbird in POP mode, I had duplicate emails every time, which drove me nuts.

I'm wondering if I should try installing a third party email app as an alternative to SM? Anyone have any suggestions?

Dave.

Actualy there is an option to use IMAP on the
http://www.mail2web.com
site.

Joe,
Using mail2web.com might be a thing to use if customers are having problems accessing their webmail.

Ok, I'm getting emails bouncing back to me on accounts I KNOW are working, on several domains, using Thunderbird to send out an email.

It's saying unrouteable addresses for:

chicagotech.org
afcn.org
caaelli.org

These are people I work with, hosted in different places, with independent email accounts. NONE of them is currently working. ALL of their email accounts can't have died at the same time.

I have a file I have to send out before 6 tomorrow morning, which is in 2 and a half hours. The amount of work, time, and sleep I've lost over this is insane.

This is ridiculous. What's the problem with my email account?

Ditto. All e-mails from my various domains sprinkled on various hostpc servers bouncing back with "unrouteable address".

Well, I got around it by using my Yahoo account to send out the stuff I had to distribute this morning. I've been up all night, partly because of this. No response from HostPC, either here or in my helpdesk ticket.

The problem seems to have affected at least two of us...so maybe I'm not the lone troublemaker :)

dc, you're ticket is still in the queue and has a lot of back and forth on this issue. We are as much baffled as you, but it isn't nor has it been ignored. Just because we can't snap our fingers and magically make a problem go away, especially an elusive one, does not mean it's not being addressed.

If we KNEW what the problem is, we would have fixed it already..that's the problem, we can't figure out the exact problem. We've tried a few things and they haven't seemed to work.

I know, and I've tried to be patient, but in general, I've seen a general decay in the levels of helpdesk support HostPC offers. I know this problem's elusive, and I know it's a pain, but in general, this has been happening somewhat often.

I'll give you an example. We asked HostPC for php IMAP, a long time ago. It was necessary for one of our sites. Joe said sure, we'd have it soon. He enabled it for my digitalraindrop.com domain, but not for my work accounts (ctcnetchicago.org, etc). Then dovecot happened. In the process, we waited for a very *long* time for php IMAP...and we're still waiting. Apparently, it's just not supported at this point. Our helpdesk ticket said it would be done, and then the promised time kept getting pushed back, and usually the deadline would come and go with no word from HostPC...not even a courtesy note telling us you couldn't figure it out yet. My boss felt like we were being ignored. He's worked with several website hosting companies in the past, many with great tech support. HostPC just hasn't delivered so far.

We've also been plagued by a series of problems since the Dovecot conversion, and my boss only signed us up as an organization a month or so before that. My credibility as a website developer / techie has suffered a *great* deal because of my loyalty to HostPC. Hurricanes are outside everyone's control, though non-techies are upset about that as well, but we've had a string of problems and inadequate helpdesk responses since then, which neither my superiors nor I are happy about.

5 of the top 10 results in Google for "HostPC review" are mine. All are glowingly positive. I'm not a habitual complainer. But I'm starting to feel a little like one, and starting to feel like we're being treated like one. My boss has already turned new sites to other hosting arrangements, and there's been much discussion of moving some of our existing domains as well.

What can I say? Some problems are hard to figure out, but we've been hit by more problems in the past few weeks than I had had with HostPC in 2 or 3 years prior to that.

Dave.

I'm sorry we haven't lived up to your expectations. Please feel free to open a helpdesk ticket and ask for a prorated refund on your account.
