OK. Time for real stories.

Way back when, I was called in to help a person use her first Windows box. She called me saying that her mouse wasn't working. I walked into the room and saw her waving her mouse around in the air in front of the monitor, repeatedly clicking the button, trying to use it like a "laser pointer" or some such device. She finally said, "I think this thing is defective and I need a replacement."

Containing myself, I agreed with her and then volunteered to give her an "old-fashioned" mouse, i.e. one that needed to roll on the mousepad or desk surface in order to work.
