I use UebiMiau to check e-mail while I am at work. It keeps automatically logging me out in some finite amount of time.
Any idea how to make it longer? It's getting pretty annoying having to relog in every xx minutes...
Thanks!
It is a server setting ...
Also, it is a security setting .. if you login and walk off .. anybody can hop on your desktop and start reading and sending mail as you. So, it auto logs you off after so long to keep that from happening
You can put in a helpdesk ticket for a longer time .. but doubt its going to change .. it is more than likely set at the max the admin going to put it

If you log in and walk off it's the users problem not the hosts.
I have literally typed a half page e-mail, click send and then get presented with the login screen and lose the e-mail. Very annoying.

The solution to this might be to use a browser tool to keep the connection alive. This may be relatively easy with Firefox, but is also possible with IE.
I've experienced this, too -- but have learned to copy my message to the clipboard before sending it, just in case I got logged-out. Then I can just log in and paste the message back in. A bit of a nuisance, but nothing disastrous.
What servers are you on? The idle timeout is set to 10min by default if I recall. I can make them longer, say 20min is that would help.

I disagree with you on that. It is the hosts problem when someone gets on your account and sends millions of SPAM email out and you get the entire server blacklisted. Now I can't send emails to important contacts .. now its the hosts problem

Has this really happened? Seems as if it would be more plausible if someone left their non-webmail e-mail client like outlook, eudora etc access available which has nothing to do with the time out I am complaining about. Most people leave their passwords filled in and it would trivial for someone to blast spam from that.
Another more likely scenario (in my humble opinion) is someone using a packet sniffer to capture e-mail passwords and then blasting spam out using the stolen password. Any plans to offer secure webmail (https?) to avoid this? I would pay extra (but not enough to lease an IP address) for secure access to my webmail.
I am not arguing against a timeout, I just don't think it's the weakest link. I guess you can craft some sort of argument that people check their webmail from publicly
accessible systems and then POSSIBLY not log out... but I don’t think that should cause me to re-type several e-mails. The stupid should be punished, not the public…
Regardless, the timeout has been increased and I am happy now!!
