Users on www300 and www301 are experiencing slow responses times.

We just got off the phone with the data center and they assure us they are aware of the problem and are working quickly to resolve it.

It's (fortunately or unfortunately) only affecting those two servers, the rest of the pool, in the other datacenter (we seperated for diversity) are flying

I just spoke with them again - they hope to have it resolved very soon.

First report from our provider:

We have been enduring severe levels of latency through any entity attached to our Iowa-based hosting center in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the better part of the past hour. I do apologize for the lack of a timely response here but our various administrative and management pieces have been screaming, driving to, and assaulting a variety of providers in the Central and Eastern Iowa areas... between Level(3)/WilTel, and Mediacom, there is an obviously devastating issue affecting a primary gigabit ethernet circuit that services our public hosting segment in the Midwest. We are also experiencing extreme difficulty ramping up utilization on our other active and stand-by bandwidth pipelines, apparently due to a concurrent emergency maintenance issue affecting either one or both of our packet-over-sonet circuits exiting the Cedar Falls locale. Needless to say, we're in full-on emergency mode at this vantage point and are working every possible angle to improve service as quickly as we can: be it bringing on an additional circuit alongside our partnership with TEAMNET, and/or CFU (local utilities), and of course the diligent work to repair the issue with the primary, afflicted gigE which is the core issue.

To put it simply, not enough is known at this time, though it is increasingly likely that local construction or similar activities have resulted in damage to a fiber conduit carrying multiple. critical carriers very close in proximity to the affected facility.

Our administrators are doing everything in their power to reshape and redirect traffic as we work on these apparent, multiple outages, in respect to the abovementioned avenues.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to stabilize the situation!
Not the start to the weekend we all anticipated, to be sure.

More to come, as soon as I have it.

Update from our provider (in a reply to "any update?"):

Yes, we're churning at full and expected cylinders now (expected latency/speediness restored 6:05 PM CDT), and we're watching the situation quite closely, to be sure. To your question, we're still delving through various Mediacom and Level(3) reps at this point. I'm not going to speculate further for you- as much as I'd like to, the situation was far too nasty and I'd rather provide the concrete specifics once they're extracted.

This shall happen yet this evening, regardless of the timeframe involved here.
Thanks very much for your patience once again!

Hope to have more quite soon.

Does this mean that the www300 and www301 servers are in Cedar Rapids? I thought they were in Chicago.

I guessing that the new provider (http://www.fastservers.net/network-data-center/) has data centers in Cedar Falls as well as Chicago and that www300 and www301 are the ones that are in IA.

I can't comment any further on this at this time ... but I will, soon.
