View Full Version : Limit to the # of recipients for each email?

Hi there,
I recently tried to send an email to 30+ recipients and 1/3 of them got returned with "Mail delivery failed". Here is the actual wording from the returned email:

SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<XXXXXX@msn.com>:
host mx2.hotmail.com [65.54.244.40]: 552 Too many recipients

What is the limit on the number of recipients? Is there any way to adjust this? I opened a business account and will likely send messages with that many recipients in the future.

Thanks,
Mark

it sounds to me like the error was from hotmail, not hostpc, recipient limit is likely an anti-spam measure for hotmail...and likely not adjustable.

ahh... sounds reasonable to me. Thanks!

Not sure how you put the addresses into the list, but try putting everyone in the BCC field and only yourself in the TO: field (leave the CC: field blank). By doing this, the receiving mail server may not "see" the additional addresses and will go ahead and deliver the message. Not sure if this will work or not, but it would be worth a try.

Hey,
Yeah I originally sent the email the way you described. I agree that hotmail generated the error.
