Please consider adding support for secure FTP. I'm not a big fan of sending passwords in plain text, which is the way standard FTP does things.

I'm not requesting that SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) be implemented, but rather, FTP over TLS/SSL (FTPS). The latter does not require shell access and appears to already be supported by DirectAdmin.

I'm not familiar with the details of how HostPC has implemented DirectAdmin on its servers, but adding this feature may be as simple as making some adjustments to /etc/proftpd.conf.

Here's the discussion on the DirectAdmin forums regarding this feature:

Here's information about FTPS:

Please consider this addition as the increased security will surely be appreciated by many HostPC customers.

That's odd. The messages in this forum indicate that SFTP will not work and it was stated when SSH support was added that SFTP would continue to not work.

I connect to my site's SSH using Putty.

If you open WinSCP and goto About, you'll see it mentioned
SSH and SCP code are based on PuTTY 0.58.

So probably, WinSCP can connect to SFTP via SSH protocols or something like that ?

I've never felt the need to log in to my site securely, but I'll be taking an eee PC on vacation soon and am getting apprehensive about the wireless connections I'll have to use.

The eee seems to have the ability to use the secure protocols SFTP and FISH. Those don't seem to work with HostPC...but I wish they did!

I can't get SSH to work either, but that may be due to my unfamiliarity with linux implementation of it.

SFTP worked when SSH was available.
Right now, none of the PHP5 servers have SSH available because of a core OS update for jailed-shell access.
Im guessing when SSH is back, SFTP would work.

Is there any movement on the availability of secure ftp on HostPC?

I would like to use WinSCP, which can utilize SFTP and SCP protocols (upshot: secure transfers).
