Joe & Co have been very helpful looking into some issues with SA on 300 but have run out of ideas. So if you are on 300, check to see if SA is actually working for you.

If it is enabled, all of your emails that come through should have header information showing what version of spam assassin as well as the score and other small details. The headers will be like:

X-Spam-Flag: YES
X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.2 (2007-07-23) on wwwXXX.hostpc.com
X-Spam-Level: **********
X-Spam-Status: Yes, score=10.9 required=5.0 tests=BAYES_80,
RCVD_IN_BL_SPAMCOP_NET,RCVD_IN_PBL,RCVD_IN_SORBS_D UL autolearn=no
version=3.2.2

It may not be exactly that depending on the version and options. This appears to have stopped working on October 13, 2007 when there was some sort of hiccup in the mail delivery on for 300. I know of one other customer on 300 with the same issue.

This is not a thread about anything negative with HostPC, just looking for some answers to see if there is anything more we can bring to the support staff to get this resolved.

Thanks!

Jay

rmcb5, was this ever resolved?

I'm on server 317 and SpamAssassin is not functioning there for me either. I had an account on server 304 for a while and SA worked very well. (I get about 10 spam a day and SA had no problem identifying them.) Now I miss it.

No, it has not been resolved. It is either live with it or pay for EAS as I have been told.

I know some servers are fine and others are terrible. It has to do with the amount of spam coming in. When it hits a certain threshold I guess SA just shuts down so it doesn't bog down. Since the spam keeps coming it never can get back to playing nice.

I'm on 304. And in the past few days I have noticed a 20 fold increase in the amount of spam I am receiving. I thought it might have something to do with the php5 upgrade.
The big question, then, is how do I beat back the spam attacks?? I mean, really, I'm sexy enough already! :nod

I got the impression from the helpdesk ticket I opened, that there's some sort of problem with the latest version of DirectAdmin causing the SA problem on some servers.

I can't imagine the spam threshold thing actually keeping SA offline 24x7.

SA is and has been a problem for quite some time. The latest versions of DA have just presented new problems. On most servers its scanning but not filtering or adding headers to messages. Its certainly a script that has seen its day and is no longer effective. Maybe someone else will come along and fix its problems. For now EAS is the best solution.

starfighter,

I just noticed that we're neighbors. But I didn't see a way to send a PM here, to say hi.
