I've got Movable Type (http://movabletype.org) (blogging software) up and running very smoothly, although www9 doesn't seem to have all of the required Perl modules installed. Get the "Full Version With Libraries" from the MT download page, and you shouldn't have a problem.

pmatt,

Oh, good. I was just going to post a question concerning MT...

I'm having trouble getting it to recognize my database directory. I'm using Berkeley DB and created a database directory outside of the publicly-viewable directory, but I keep getting this error:

Loading initial data into system...

An error occurred while loading data:

Your DataSource directory ('/domains/refugeisland.net/mtdb') does not exist.

Were you able to get it to work? Let me know. (mt-check said the MySQL=related stuff wasn't installed, so I'm sticking with the one I know. :wink:)

Thanks.

Mike

There are a number of modules MovableType requires (or would like to have) that aren't currently installed:
HTML::Template
Image::Size
CGI::Cookie
DBD::mysql
SOAP::Lite
Can these be installed? I really, really want DBD:mysql installed so I can continue to use my MySQL database for entries. Pretty please?

I have both Invision Power Board and Coppermine working great on my 3 sites.

have you tried adjusting the path to: '/home/your_username/domains/refugeisland.net/mtdb' ?

DBD::mysql and DBI::mysql are now installed on all DA servers
Image::Size and HTML::Template I believe are part of Image::Magick - it's on too

SOAP::Lite - thats gonna take some doing... but eventually.

Let me finish with the www6 failure, the basics are installed, then we can re-address the remaining issues.

Here is a link of the default Direct Admin Paths (http://www.directadmin.com/paths.html) if anyone else is interested. these may not be applicable 100% to HostPC's servers, but they might get you started with some application you are trying to configure, and whether you can even access the required/desired directory.

Are there any tips/tricks to using Gallery on DA?

I haven't tried installing it yet..

just wondered if there is a safemode that needs turned off or anything else necessary to make Gallery work

installing Gallery is very straight forward. much more so on DA than on ensim. Remember to use the full directory path when configuring... ie. /home/username/domain.com etc.

good luck! it's working very well on my account.

I'm on the lower end of the proficiency scale for getting PHP/MySQL apps up and running, but I had a fairly easy time installing:

Sitebar - for bookmark management

and

Feed on Feeds - for reading RSS feeds

They're both highly-rated at SourceForge and HotScripts and IMHO, so far, they both work well at what they do.

For both of those categories, I tried or seriously considered at least 3 other apps that I couldn't get running, most likely owing more to my own shortcomings with the install process than any problem with the apps themselves.

What mailing-list-managers are being used successfully?

I'd like more lists than the control panel will allow me to have...

I've been trying to install MovableType today, but it doesn't recognize the installation of DBD::mysql, Image::Magick or DBD::SQLite.

I've read the forums, but am still at a loss as to my next step. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

It appears as though my v4 CMS is working in beta and my formmailer and links directory both work on DA as well http://scripts.dbmasters.net/

I can confirm the good results with the CMS versions 3 and 4 as well as with the formmailer.
