I have been having problems sending email from one HostPC server to another (yes, they may have both been on the same DA server).

I just saw this comment by dbmasters:

The only problems I have are if somebody on the same physical server as me, or a form on one of my web sites tries to email me, as it looks at the domain on the server and ignores MX records and therefore fails. Onbe of DA's biggest flaws in my opinion.

The way I got around this is I set up my me@domain.com in my gmail hosted space, plsu, I also set up me@domain.com in my DA domain control panel. The one in DA I forwarded to a dummy gmail account and that forwarded to me@domain.com in my hosted space. It's hokey but it works...after figuring that out I can't think of any email I have lost.

Hmm... could this be why this was occuring? (This is not related to the gmail topic)

Is this true? If we are both on the same DA webserver, can we not send email to each other? :eek: I stopped looking into this a while ago as I didn't have time to spend on it and the person stopped complaining (and was tired of sending test emails to me). But I'd still like to clear this up.

I have three clients who are on the same server as I am and we exchange email regularly without issue.

Tony,

Thanks for the reply. I know I can send email to my self across servers, but I never did find out why I couldn't receive emails from this one HostPC server.

We had checked 'white list' entries, 'black list' entries, etc.

I'll have to check to see if this is still an issue if this person will send me some test emails again! :)

This is a problem if you and the sender have your domains on the same server, and the recipient doesn't use the server for email, but rather forwards it to someplace else (in my case Google for Domains Email Service) the sender's email will get sent to your domain on that server and if the user isn't found, it will just drop...

It sucks. One of DA's biggest faults from my vantage point is not respecting MX records.

Does it make a difference in this issue whether you set the MX record at the registrar or within DA?

I would suspect it doesn't matter, if the sender and recipient domains are both on the same server, it'll hit a black hole at the recipient regardless...or that is what I would suspect.

I'm not sure if he is using a forwarded account yet. I'll check.

One user is on www57, the other is on www503. If he tries to send me an email form www57 to my (non forwarded) account on www503, I never get it!

Although, at one time I did try this with a forwarded account, we're now testing with a regular account.

ie:
at one time we tried:

email from test@www57.tld to fwd@www503.tld which should get forwarded to me@www503.tld, did not work.

Then we tried:
email from test@www57.tld to me@www503.tld does not work.

I checked and placed all domains in the (at that time SA) white list. checked to be sure none were in the black list, etc.

Still nothing. :(

I just put in a help desk ticket on this.

It sholdn't be this hard.

This is still not working. The strange thing is we can send email in one direction but not the other.

www503 -> www57 is ok

www57 -> to www503 is not.

I'll see if he can setup another account and try to send me email again. Maybe it's just this one account for some reason (it's basically newslettter@www57domain.tld)
