Hmmm... It seems Verizon has a new block on HostPC servers.

One of my servers forwards email to the Board of Directors of an organization. Unfortunately serveral of them are using verizon.

I received notifications of the blocked emails such as this one:

SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
host relay.verizon.net [206.46.232.11]: 571 Email from 208.115.37.122 is currently blocked by Verizon Online's anti-spam system. The email sender or Email Service Provider may visit http://www.verizon.net/whitelist (mhtml:{86B898E7-55C1-44CC-8FEE-DA39C99C7212}mid://00000026/!x-usc:http://www.verizon.net/whitelist) and request removal of the block.

When I used their 'white list' from both the ISP and Verizon member point of view, upon entering all the information I receive:

error: -2147220977, description: The server rejected one or more recipient addresses. The server response was: 550 Relaying Denied

Hmmm.. so Verizon won't let us forward emails to their customers anymore??

Anyone know of a way to fix this or some suggestions on how to handle it (without asking BoD members to get another ISP. Heck, I use verizon too (FIOS is great), but I use my hostpc domain for email. :thumbUP

First suggestion for all people. NEVER use your ISP for email service! You are essentially locked in with them.
Second, put the messages up on an online web page. As long as they are messages that everyone is supposed to see, this shouldn't be a problem. Inform the Board of this service and get them to start checking the site.

Stupid Verizon continues to block the university . . . in spite of the fact MOST SPAM originates on the home machines of Verizon customers not any of these other servers. Too bad Verizon doesn't blacklist their own servers!

Eugene,

It's not so easy to tell people that don't understand computers, nor the internet that they shouldn't use their ISP as their email provider! Try as I might, they just look at you like you are crazy when you try educate them!

Verizon must have figured out that they made a mistake. The email is flowing again, and when I try to use their web link to log this error, it works now.

Perhaps they had a lot of people complaining, whatever the reason, it's cleared up (for now).

But when the yahoos at Yahoo! block ("defer") all mail from my server here, what else can I do but switch over to my ISP for delivery? No one out there accepts direct connections from a dsl pool.

Sorry, I just had to vent. I get annoyed to no end with some of those providers, especially when my home PC gets port scanned hundreds of times a day by comcast and verizon customers and it seems like 99% of my SPAM is from one of their customers.

Indeed.

Since we obtained the new IP block, we've noticed some of these issues. Most providers (Comcast, RR, etc) recognize the new block and have added it to our whitelist. 3 months later, Verizon STILL has not honored it.
