View Full Version : The joys of hosting on USED Rackshack servers :(

We're finally back online. Yet another RS server is biting the dust. Unfortunately, the quality of the hardware they're using isn't up to our standards any longer, and I can't trust them any longer. That's a tough thing to say, but they've proven themselves unreliable.

Anyone on Ensim1 - please open a helpdesk ticket to get a new account opened on Direct Admin.

We'll be actively moving customers to that server as soon as your request comes in. You'll need to move your data, update your DNS, etc...

We'll also be installing a tertiary (3rd) DNS server for all servers later today. I'll make an announcment later today or tomorrow on how to make the changes.

Open a helpdesk ticket here: http://helpdesk.hostpc.com

Thanks

Joe

hello tstern

if your on server 1, 6 or 8...yes you must convert
if your on another...you have a little time but it would be best to go ahead and make the convert

I'm holding ensim1 together ... so far, so good.

What I'm concerned about is going through another total failure as we had with www6 recently. I don't want anyone to be put in the position of being FORCED to move like that again, so we're trying to do this in a nice, orderly, progressive manner.

There's no "mad rush" - I'd like to get them cleared off soon, but I'm not pushing right now. I've still got to get another 4-6 servers into DV2, and they cost $$ . New sales are kinda slow right now, undoubtedly some people got scared away due to the crash. I need them to know we're taking a pro-active approach to this business... we're here for the long run.

We've got plenty of room if you WANT to move now. Eventually we'll ask everyone to begin the move, but thats a couple of months down the road probably.

I'm just sharing where my head is on this subject. I'm tired of having to rely on used hardware (servers) at Rackshack. You deserve to be on quality servers, with new hardware.

ok, thanks. is there a thread up about what is involved with the switch, how it affects our user data and databases etc etc and whether it will cause an outtage in our servers...

[there's probably a thread on this, so I'll look anyway, but if you could post a link it might be helpful]

thanks,
toby

hello toby

its very easy
we will set up the account on the new server
you just upload your data, import your databases, make your email addreses and change the DNS...your data will stay live on both servers until DNS is complete....you can check your mail using the IP of the server so that is not lost...and visitors will see the old or the new site until DNS is complete

https://www.hostpc.com/reorder.html

that is what you need to fill out if you want to make the switch

one last question - are the current backup files (the mysql tars and the domain.com tar) all we'd need to do this?

thanks

hello toby

yes, if you have those backup files you can just upload and import those.
the file structure is a bit different in DA...but those files hold your data in them

No, probably not before the end of the year, or Q1 2004. They're working on it, but not even a beta test yet.

We're actively looking to move people off www8 and into the TranXactGlobal Datacenter on a new DirectAdmin server...

If you're on www8, please fill out our Ensim--->DA conversion form at http://www.hostpc.com/reorder.html

I would like this server cleared off in the next 14 days. Please act NOW.
