if i have a domain registered at godaddy do i need to pay hostpc when i transfer the domain to hostpc?

I have a domain name on a shared hosting provider, now I create a VPS account in an other hosting and I want to transfer the domain to the new one. I ask if I can do this transfer my self manually from VPS account ? if yes any tutorial that help is welcome ?
