 Does anyone know if we'll be getting awstats back on DirectAdmin or we're going to just use the stats in the control panel...?

Awstats probably won't be restored till the first quarter of next year... they're working hard to get everything ready for it - and they are making progress - it's just taking a bit of time.

Thanks

Joe

The apache logs are stored in:

/var/log/httpd/domains/domain.com.log
/var/log/httpd/domains/domain.com.error.log

If you download the awstats program from sourceforge and set them up using your domain in place of domain.com, it works.. I just set one up on one of my sites... www.jamesmcmurtry.com/awstats

BTW that is an awesome looking site...

like you mentioned, apache logs only... which is just the web traffic...

Obviously with an awesome website like yours, you'll have mostly web traffic. but for a dumpy no content site like mine, i have almost 50/50 distrobution of bandwidth between ftp and http. (of course my total bandwidth is about 100 mb a month HAHAAH)

wish I could take credit for the design.. however... I only host it for a friend in New York.. and James McMurtry is in Texas... it's a small world :)

How do I get to that directory? I don't seem to have a var in the root as I did on the old server. I have /domains, /mail, and /public_html.

I got used to using an analyzer program called WebLog Expert, but I need to ftp the real logs down, not the webalizer junk.

I don't think you can get to that path. With direct admin you have "less access" to folders than you did with ensim.

Is weblog expert running locallyon your machine? or on the hostpc server? If on the server, you should be able to get to that directory if you run the stat script as root.

If you need them on your local, really the only easy way to do it is to download the file from the control panel |Stats|Apache logs...

However do recognize these are only apache logs and not all other transfers...

It is a thing with getting jailed access to the host...

The new format is "easier" since most of the stuff, people dont need to see... but then again, there is the problem of not seeing all that is costing you space... AKA, i have a 15 meg mail file that i can't see or delete.

and by the way, they are directories, not folders mr. RPI windows man... HAHAAHA :D :P

Eh, everyone knows that they are interchangeable, both of them provide the same meaning... :P

Yeah, it's a Windows app. Did you notice where I mentioned ftping the logs to my PC?

I think Windows uses the word folder to relate to the idea of a (paper) file folder. Of course many people have never dealt with those, plus those of us who've used other systems tend to use the word directory, which just confuses the Windows-only people more.

That worked. Thanks! It brought the log up in my browser & I just did a Save As to save a text file.

One advantage of doing this is that I now have the logs backed up on my PC, so if something happens to them on the server, I'm covered. Or if I want to delete them (if there's a way to do that), I can. This software can analyze multiple log files & create a merged report for all of them. It can even handle zipped log files.

This is the site where you can download it:
http://www.weblogexpert.com/

I'm using the free lite version, & it tells me a lot more than either control panel did. It shows access stats for every page of my site, which is nice because I have over 100 pages. Before I started using this, I just assumed my home page was the most visited, but it turns out 2 other pages are, by far, because some other site linked directly to them. This shows me where visitors come from, what search terms they used, if any, & a lot more stuff.

Yep, did sort of the same too. Just copied the awstats stuff from my ensim account onto the new DA account (one awstats dir into html_public one into cgi-bin). This way I kept my cgi-bin/awstats/data dir containing the history so the stats will not show any interruption.
Changed path to access log file as you indicated. Used browser updates for quicky and..
Presto!!

Two gotcha's:
1) upload .pl ASCII
2) be sure to set 755 for awstats.pl otherwise you'll get something like "premature end of headers" .

Frits.
