View Full Version : Captcha too Hard to Read

I was trying to search messages here, and I gave up after about 10 failures of entering the captcha string, and many more attempts at refreshing the image to get something readable. That thing is too hard to read. The backgrounds obscure the characters and it is far from clear whether upper or lower case letters are being shown.
I went over to vBulletin, and saw a message there that said there is an option to select different types of human verification. (They don't use captcha there.)
Could a different method be selected at:
Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Human Verification Manager ?
Thanks,
Paul

The captcha should only be used if you're not logged in - unless something isn't working correctly. We don't have an option to change the "style" of the captcha at this point, but a vBulletin upgrade is scheduled for this weekend, or sooner.

Oh I see. I get lazy when I'm only viewing and don't log in. Getting rid of that captcha is worth logging in for searching though.
Thanks

I can't read the captcha here either. Some sites it's quite easy, others it is quite hard. If the style of captcha can't be changed, I suggest renaming it "forgetaboutit". I even had to change my user name here because I flubbed my password so often I was locked out, and then I couldn't pass the captcha test to submit a help request. Talk about frustrating!
But, seriously, the captcha programs ignore that visual capability varies widely among individuals including color sensitivity. I'm not color blind by normal standards, but I'm wondering if the colors are too close for my discrimination or the shape differences are too subtle for me (especially some of the close upper/lower case matches).

Yeah, isn't reCaptcha an option?
Granted, I'm still not sure how I'm supposed to type one half... I've seen it a few times on different sites with reCAPTCHA. It's an actual 1/2 (where 1 is over 2, not just typed like that).
