As HostPC Continues to grow - so too do our forums. Invision forums made an excellent upgrade choice, we think you'll be pleased with the outcomes!
Thanks

yes it does, too bad it doesn't seem as intuitive...
too much junk everywhere to me
also, I find it a little strange that there's no place in the profile that I could see for a person's name. I was looking at other profiles, and at my own control panel...weird
I'm sure the name thing has to do with the "privacy" aspect of it...
Tho, I bet nobody could ever guess my name :)
Ummm....Bob? No....Mark? No...I'm tired of guessing.
I like that I'm now a Site Admin -- it makes me feel important. But wait, everyone's a Site Admin -- now I feel unimportant. ;)

Hmmm, I am currently using phpBB 2.0 but I might have to try out this one as well. Especially since I found out that it is also *free*, the magic price. Well, it is free if you don't want help, but who needs that anyways? :P
Just as a suggestion, you might want to change the Invision Power Board logo at the top to the Hostpc one, it would make it look customized for your hostpc customers... Just a suggestion...

Bah, phpbb is still the best in my opinion
Two questions:
Stangz, or anyone else who'd know... Where is the "free" version of IPB? I looked at invisionboard.com and the cheapest version is $60/yr. or $150/lifetime. Didn't see any free versions.
Joe or Nick... The system requirements say "PHP 4.0.6 or better (4.1+ highly recommended) and MySQL 3.22 or better (4.0.15+ recommended)" Looks like www9 is running mySQL 4.0.14. Since it works for hostpc.com, does that mean the PHP version on 9 is high enough, too?
This is currently running on Ensim, which is less than the DA server specs - so yes, it'll run fine.
As for the free version - it's there, just select no registration.

They hide it slightly but go here: http://www.invisionboard.com/download.cgi and then click on the lower left hand corner link that says "View trial download form and pricing..."
Have fun :D

Remember that you are unique... just like everyone else.
Thanks Joe and Stangz.
I downloaded IPB, installed it, followed the directions and it works! Amazing, and even more amazing that it's free! I had to share this good news because, as Joe knows, my installs never seem to go so simply. ;)
Those who love to tweak things will love IPB. It has a vast array of settings for admins.
IPB is a great product. I've got it installed on one site right now - will probably be installing it on a second site soon.
And, like Jeff, I've noticed that it "just works" -- first time install, everything was right. Just follow the instructions and "bam" there it is! Don't ya luv it when something works like it's supposed to!
How much disk space does it consume for the files and the database? For example, how much space is being used for this one here at hostpc?
with the database it's around 20mb.

You would be AMAZED at how many people can't read those instructions though. I am always over at the IPB forums trying to help people wade through their install gaffs :)
heh
