View Full Version : IMAP reliability on the new DA servers

I'm suspicious that IMAP on the DAs is ready for deployment. In starting a transition from ensim I setup a number of email accounts on the new system and (as I've reported in a different post), all but one account worked. The account that did not work is also the most heavily used - i.e., the one with lots and lots of folders and email content.

Because I'm losing (and have lost) a lot of incoming mail during the past couple of days I had to bite the bullet and delete the account then recreate it, hoping to get it working. That means I've now got to spend another two days (again) recreating all the folders and copying over all of the contents.

But guess what I just discovered: deleting the account does not delete the account! Instead it just removes access to it. Once the account is recreated everything that was there prior to the delete is still there! All of the folders, all of the contents in the folders, etc.

So my first pass at getting rid of the account and recreating it was in vain. It still would not receive email!

In the file manager I found that I could navigate to the IMAP/xxxx folder. So I figured I'd delete that. I cannot: directory is not empty. I am not allowed to go into it to delete anything that is in it (owned by root).

Fortunately I'm allowed to rename it. So I renamed it, recreated my account, and now email is coming in (yea!).

Now to upload all of the folders and files again (sigh). I just hope it will still work when I'm done.

What do I need to do to get rid of the renamed tree?

Since you're obviously much more "in tune" with IMAP than I am, I'm going to ask you a favor.

Please go to http://www.directadmin.com/forum In the "How do I: User" forum

Post your question there... it's a direct link to the author, who I'm sure will respond promptly. You'll be better explaining the situation than I will ... you can ask all the specifics, I'm sure he'll be happy to help. I could TRY to pass on your comments, but it's likely to get confused in the translation :)

Thanks.... please let us know how you make out.

Joe

Thanks! I'm going to do that. Just as a further note I'm getting even more confused as I work on this. I just started recopying all of the folders and, as I was doing it, I kept getting complaints that "Folder already exists" each time I'd try to create the folder again.

The folder would then show up and be already populated! Hmmmm (says I) :  what is going on? I go into the list of folders (via "Subscribe") and low-n-behold they are all (still) there!

Resubscribe to them and voila! I'm back in business w/ no need to recopy (hurrah)!

I also observe that there is indeed a duplicate INBOX in the folder list. I suspected yesterday (see my earlier post in another thread) that that was the source of all my troubles and so it be. I shall report this as well.

Thanks for the help (or sympathy, or whatever) ;)
