I totally understand and respect Joe's decision to remove SpamAssassin ...

However, I want to use server-side spam-filtering. I don't want the spam to be downloaded to Outlook or OE for some add-on to decide if it's spam. Spam should be reduced at the server level!

What recommendations do y'all have? Anything that can be installed without being root?

Thanks

OZEE

Look into Procmail filtering... I can't give too many details, but there are ways to work with a procmail filter to get rid of a lot of the garbage... it's also on my "to do" list.

A couple of procmail spam filtering tools (recipes): http://www.spambouncer.org/
http://junkfilter.zer0.org/ or http://sourceforge.net/projects/junkfilter/
 Clear as mud? Good. My work here is done. :D

Actually that spambouncer is a pretty attractive filter - thanks for the link.

Eugene - thanks for those links. I, too, like the looks of spambouncer.

OK, now the next noobie question ...

Do we have procmail capabilities? Do I have access to what I need on the system to be able to install spambouncer?

Had to laugh! :P
I followed the link just to check out some of the details... found this line!

Users that use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express who cannot upgrade to a better email program ...

OK, I'm using Outlook Express.... I confess.

It is in the works

I'm still working on the procmail support plan - but it takes a global recompile of Exim - it's not "on" by default. I'll be doing some serious "testing" before opening this up.

Any progress, thoughts or conclusions on this anti-spam option?
