Hi Folks -
I'd like to open this question up to all:

I'm planning to start a weblog soon, and I'm trying to choose software.

I'd love to hear about any experiences anyone might have, etc.

Personally, I'd like to have something pretty simple, but also something I can customize. Heck, I'd probably use blogspot.com, except i'd prefer to have everything on my server.

I'm leaning toward something in the nuke family, since i am pretty proficient in php, which makes customizing my blog a bit easier. my only issue with the nuke family is that it seems to be "too much" for a site devoted to a single person's blog.

any and all thoughts and comments are appreciated.

I don't have much experience with PHP, and absolutely no experience with nuke (or atomize, or obliterate... sorry, bad joke), so I can't really recommend a PHP tool.

However, I just did a quick search and found something I've seen used before called b2. It appears to use PHP. http://cafelog.com/

For the rest of this post, I'll just babble about non-PHP programs I know of. :)

I use Movable Type, myself, and I love it. It's probably the most flexible of the programs I've used, allowing me to run as many "blogs" as I need. I used quotes there because I actually use MT for more than just my blog; it's proven to be extremely handy as a cotent-management tool for at least one other section of my site. www.movabletype.org

Another one I've used, though not since early last year, is Greymatter. www.noahgrey.com/greysoft (I think that's still valid).

thanks, mike.

i have a question about moveabletype, because it looks good -- how easy is it to customize if i'm not too good with PERL?

I wouldn't know. I don't know anything about Perl, either. *wry grin*
