We've put up a new scripting repository at HostPC. We'll be populating it with links and information over time. Right now, we're concentrating on PHP scripts, but will add others as time goes along.

If you have a cool script that you use, or have used, please feel free to recommend it for others! Add a link if you can... help us build this up to be a valuable resource for others here at HostPC!

Thanks

I wonder why most the PERL modules vanished with the last server change?

---and my little gadgets naturally quit working...

I think I groaned in a prior post and noted I enjoy this place for just normal personal-hobby website and perl script gadgets are secondary.

It would seem most all hosts on web support perl and have a complete set of modules.(complete?)

Some places say Perl is a security risk...but that issue is beyond my iq.

You want modules?

I installed that(or a similiar one)perldiver script after the server move...and said...where did all the modules go? I got no reply so....---and have not looked at such script in awhile....

I have not been very active of recent...the weather in these parts has been so lousy and cold all my energy seems to be taken up by other things besides the web.

HostPC has been the best place I've seen so far. If you vanish I just might go hysterical or psycotic.

By what you say people that sign up at a price/plan are grandfathered as such so even if you went 2x,3x.4x rates why snibble?

joe..I'm not complaining but I am confused. I bought a site here. Installed a few perl scripts.--just playing around...

All scripts worked fine.

After the server move ALL my scripts went DEAD. I brought the perldiver script alive again by ftp'ing in a new one.

An above post has a link to perldiver script which shows the modules installed.Hard to beat that collection.

Still at my site

Of coarse a script won't work if the module called upon is not there.

I'm no wizard here but confused.

Am I on an oddball server or script ability turned off?

I'll take a look at your scripts later tonight.

I don't think its a question of the scripts.I have very few here now.....but if I ship ANYTHING new to my site that works elsewhere it will not work here.

:o

ok..to make question more simple this .txt script in .pl .cgi version works at every other site I have.It even works at * 'hypermart' 'virtualave' Works at *

http://www.l33t.ca/

http://www.traffichouse.de/ *

http://www.wi3k.net/

http://www.worldzonepro.com/ *

http://www.valuablehost.com/ *

and I could list a host of other places free/paid it always works..no problem.....

http://www.thechristianplace.com/temporary/

Very easy..ftp the txt version to hostpc ascII chmod 755

http://www.shepaug.net/cgi-bin/january28.pl

Now I might not have the latest perldiver script on my site but its seems accurate elsewhere.

http://www.shepaug.net/cgi-bin/perdiver.pl

hmmm..wheres a txt version..

http://railroad.hypermart.net/perldiver.txt

When I signed up here quite awhile ago nothing in my cgi-bin worked.I snibbled. No attention.I snibbled. Finally my cgi-bin came to life and all scripts seem to work like a miracle.

The server change.I could not ftp out of cgi-bin...it was moved for me...thank you...all scripts quit working.

No snibble. Just ftp things back in from elsewhere.---or re-edit
here.....

The only scripts that work seem to be 'file manager' scripts.(forget what modules they use)

Most seem to only want perl for messageboards, etc.

I enjoy perl for a few web-based gadgets,tools,or whatever....I rare
make such public.

With such tools I can use a webtv/msntv/aoltv unit on the web for things beyond web surfing.
I can use a library computer with everything disabled and do things with web-based tools.(at least around here you can't even send yourself an email attachment from a library computer)

Its simple...instead of hundreds of hours playing inside of cgi-bin with nothing working....does my cgi-bin work? why does my perldiver script list only limited modules?

Otherwise HOSTPC the best buy on the web and if cgi-bin be as it is I can just forget about it and just use the space for normal website creation.

I have not tried php.(and not being a php wizard)

http://www.thechristianplace.com/temporary/

Take the .txt to hostpc.....

CGI works.. there's nothing wrong with CGI.

Perhaps there are some modules that you do not have installed, that are required by the programs you're trying to run, but in that case (99% of the time) we're able to install your modules without a problem. Apache doesn't include EVERY module in all default installations... it's just not practical.

Your CGI is working, or you wouldn't be able to run the perldiver script.

An error liks this:

Can't locate Net/FTP.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0/i386-linux /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.0 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl .) at january28.pl line 12.

Indicates there are modules that are missing - and need to be installed. I would need to know WHAT modules this script are dependent on, to make sure you have them installed for your domain.

I guess that might explain it.

I know nothing about running a 'server' except you take your computer and download things like Apache and FreeBsd.(and normally dump Windows as OS)

I was under the impression that the perl stuff was sort of like a package deal...as if one snooped most any webhosts most all modules are there vs. requests for individual installation.---like that php stuff...install so and so version and 'its all there'.....

So that would explain scripts that don't work...my site is on server with limited modules like no LWP things..NET::FTP..MIME::TOOLS,etc.

---and it beyond my iq what all those modules are for....(hundreds of them?)(invent a new one tommorrow)

-but snibble-snibble...LWP stuff..NET::FTP,etc. common....
