View Full Version : E-mail Parser Recommendation?
Anyone know of an e-mail parsing script for wireless e-mail?
I'm looking for a way to parse long e-mail messages into several shorter ones of specific lengths to make them readable in my wireless device– in this case, a 2-way pager. A server-side solution would be ideal, so that a long e-mail sent to a specific address in my domain here would be chopped into smaller messages and forwarded in multiple chunks to my pager.
Something like this would be useful for phones, too. My wireless phone has an even lower character count for messages than my pager.
Edit: I should add that I've Googled this probably 40 different ways and most of the searches point to SpreadMsg Lite, a WIN client. I want a server-side solution.

It should be pretty easy to create one in Perl and have it run as a procmail script.
Eugene, that's a good suggestion and if I had even the tiniest bit of programming ability, I would explore it. :) Your post did reassure me that what I am seeking is not overly complex, and it led me to a brainstorm over the weekend that a wireless forwarder might make a good addition to the functionality of DA. So... I just posted this as a feature suggestion over on the DA Forum.

I guess if John likes the idea, we'll all be able to look forward to this feature in a future version.
The keeper of DirectAdmin, John, sez the idea is of too limited interest to include in DA. :( He thinks it should be handled as a standalone script.
Anyone interested in doing the script for hire? I want this functionality. I'll pay the equivalent of a shareware fee for it. Whoever does the work can retain the rights and share it on Sourceforge with the world if they like.

Stumbled over these links while doing other research:
About half-way down the page under "Forwarding to a pager":
