I just would like to respond to this thread - tho I don't feel it appropriate to do this at Anandtech.

HostPC has been in business since 1998 - and has, every month except one, been in the black (ie profitable). The one month we were not was Nov 2003 when we had a cash outlay of nearly $10k for new hardware in the new datacenter. I'm happy to report that in December, we were back in the black and continue to be.

If I were to match the prices exactly with this other company, ****** (posters company and self promotion excluded) wouldn't be making enough to stay afloat.

I'm happy to report that HostPC has CONSISTENTLY worked to get you the BEST service, BEST hardware, and the BEST uptime available. We've consistently offered LOWER prices - I think there was only ONE price RAISE in our history. Every other time, offerings have included MORE and the price has DROPPED.

Many would consider us an "economy" host. What many don't understand is that we also host several Municipal Government sites, police departments, ambulance services, banks, emergency services departments, Elections departments. We're trusted by MANY Big name organizations, business and govt agencies - you can trust us with your sites!

Thanks for letting me respond to this thread - I had to get it off my chest :)

unfortunately the AT forums leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. While the "Anand Tech effect" can be felt with the response to various hot deals and is a good thing for companies who can handle it, and I found Host PC @ AT, their forums are chock full of shameless ego-maniac techie wanna-be's, who always know best. It's tiring and childish. I don't care to get into a spitting contest with some 12 year old over whether brand x or brand y hosting is *better*. Especially since the fact is that HostPC is an excellent host, and an excellent and extremely professional company with which I hope to do business for many years to come.

What it ultimately comes down to is, Joe, keep up the good work. Those kids, who are too busy signing up for 3 years free hosting, aren't anything to be afraid of. Respect the power a large online community can have, but ultimately the proof is in the pudding as they say, and all those 3 years free accounts will likely be gone long before your next 2 for 1 sale, and as long as you stay in good you'll be filling more servers.
