View Full Version : How Long Before Dns Resolves?
Just set up a site/domain name (by far the cheapest I've seen for what you
get and also tons of great reviews, really looking forward to using you
guys, THANKS!).
Curious about how long it'll take before the DNS resolves/replicates - usually
like 24 hours, isn't it? So I should be able to see my domain tomorrow?
Thanks in advance...
DNS takes 24 to 72 hours to globally propogate.

Check email, they should have send you an address where you can view your domain and set it up for it propagates

Gotchya. Saw that email, just curious when I can point others to it.
Thanks!

It is safest to wait 72 hours for full DNS propagation. Often it comes in 24 to 48 yours.

Yep, some servers are faster than others.
I've found that backwater TLDs take longer to resolve. While my dot-coms and dot-nets will resolve in a day or two, my dot-ws and dot-biz seem to take most of a week to migrate. :P

Haven't had too much experience with non-.com/net/orgs so can't comment on that.

:( It's been six days and I'm still waiting for the DNS to resolve. Is there something that I need to do?
Thanks,
Gabriel

What is your domain? Are you certain your settings care correctly typed in when you changed over the DNS?
Probably best to open a ticket. If you want some help here we are going to need more information then "its not working".
1) Domain name
2) Registrar of the domain (who you registered it with)
3) What server did your welcome email say you were on?
4) Is this a new domain/hosting setup or did you move from one server to another ?

Thank you for reading my mind Andrax :P
First off, please excuse my ignorance! (I'll bet I am going to show ALOT of it just in this post!) Is what you are talking about, the thing that gives me a 403 Forbidden Error when I try to see my new web site?
(Sorry but this is my first web site and I am sooooo lost!)
Nope..that is probably caused by the bug in DA
refer here http://www.hostpc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=915
Just to double check I didn't mess up something that Joe already fixed, this is what it says now under Default Domain:
mysite.com is now your default domain.
/~mysite will now point to mysite.com
Is that what it is supposed to say?
hello star
put in a helpdesk ticket with your domain
Hello, Nick! Thanks for the help. But shhhh! Don't tell Joe. . .I don't want him to think I am being a Pain this early on! LOL

all of the HostPC staff are remarkably helpful and quick to respond. things only slow down when there are system failures they are monitoring, but even then...their response time is excellent.
they won't think you are a pain unless you ask them how to write a web page, or how to upload your new files ;) - that's what the forum and all the regulars are here for
Yes, but what you guys don't know is that I know Joe from another board. So, now he has to put up with me on 2 different boards as well as me "trying" to put up my first website at Hostpc! I swear he is going to have nightmares about this!
Thanks for the help, everyone! Now I know why it took me. . .oh, about 4 years to make my first attempt at web site owner! I thought that you pushed a button and poof you have a web site!
