Yahoo dropped Google as the default search technology provider for its U.S.-based sites late Tuesday, signaling the beginning of the end for the Web's most high-profile marriage of convenience.

There's a place for both companies and the Net is a richer place because of their contributions.

But the move is not surprising. Yahoo gave Google a high profile that made it what it is today, yet Google has returned the favor by encroaching more and more on territory that matters to Yahoo. Yahoo's search capability better be good, it certainly has big shoes to fill!

I hope Yahoo! does better this time around....its pre-google days were nothing special.

Yahoo has put a lot of time and expense into their Inktomi spider and engine, I am guessing it will go much better for them this time. And with Google's rash of algorhythm updates lately they have kinda started to tick me off...pretty tough to get a decent ranking when they are always changing their criteria...
