I just bought a mac this week...does anyone know any cheap software to use to make web sites with? Dreamweaver is a little out of my league...I'm getting Adobe Photoshop...heard that makes websites? Any ideas? :)

I don't know mac software, but photoshop isn't a web page designer, per se. it's for graphics. wish I could be more help.
I have a friend who does far more publishing than I do on her Mac. She swears by the shareware app PageSpinner (http://www.optima-system.com/pagespinner/) - claiming it puts out very clean HTML. I see it also has some integration with PHP in its newer versions, so that would be a good fit here at HostPC. (Hmm, I should try that myself!) For $30, you likely won't find a cheaper solution.
OK, maybe there is one cheaper solution, assuming you already have MS Word. This will probably be anathema to the purists, but if you just want to publish lightweight pages that look decent, you really can use Word - I do that occasionally.
Photoshop is probably the wrong tool for the job unless you want to do some very image-centric publishing. You did say "cheap," but for the ultimate solution, you probably would be better off with the Adobe Creative Suite (http://www.macnn.com/news/21328) (CS) which includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and GoLive. Go Live is the site-creation component of that suite, so if your order for Photoshop is on its way and you want to stick with Adobe but you don't want to drop the better part of $1000 (or ~$500 edu version) on the Suite, I'd recommend picking up GoLive to go with Photoshop.

Molly, I'm not a Mac person either, but I don't know of *any* cheap Mac software...
And villageinn is right - Photoshop is a great graphics program, but it's not a webpage designer. And MSWord for web design -- YUCK! Yes it works, but it really hacks up the html... Actually your best web design software is just a text editor (like Notepad in Windoze)

Molifer, I just bought my first Mac two weeks ago :) , and I also was looking for cheap web development software.
I recommend WebDesign (http://www.ragesw.com/webdesign.php) (by Rage Software). It has tons of great features, and only costs $30.
"It's the only thing I use anymore!" :)

Haha Cool! :) What kind of Mac did you get? I'll check the software out...I have to find time to even get work done on sites again...too busy with school lately. :(

It's an 12" iBook G4 . (Highschoolers don't have much money :D) But it's cool. Much better than a PC -- that's for sure!

What???!!!
If I had the money to buy a Mac, I'd buy better hardware . . .
Then again, my "apparent needs" are probably higher . . .

Oh, that, and my minimum screen size is 15" now :D .
Hey, you try stepping down from the 21"-29" monitors you used in 1996 to some silly 15" now. Give me a break...I need my big screen :D

True, but it's nice to have a little notebook.
Another thought -- people always say they don't have money for a Mac. They would -- if they bought a low-end model. The Mac 800MHz G4 processor is faster than some 2GHz PCs I tried.

There are more important things than raw processor speed. Overall, however, I have yet to find a Mac that could impress me on a price/performance ratio. I remember back when I worked for a Mac fan boss; I needed a new computer and he OK-ed $5000 for the purchase of a new system (1998 prices). I decided rather than buy the machine he chose, to find my own box. I ended up spending a little over $1500 on a dual processor system with plenty of RAM, disk space, and a sweet graphics card. For the next two years, I had the best box.
That said, one of the nicest toys I ever played with was a $60,000 SGI Octane on an imersadesk. Wow, that was cool.

Haha...I guess I just like it for the video end and because it looks cute...which is probably the worst thing to be saying in this forum :)
Also...I have another question...does anyone know how I can transfer my files from Outlook on windows to Office X? I have my entire life in Outlook ranging from about 2000 contacts, calendar, and over 20,000 saved e-mails...lol...Is there a way to maybe transfer any of this into iCal?

I would assume that this shouldn't be too horrible of a task as Microsoft was responsible for both software packages (and, incidentally, also for Mac OS X). If there is no direct import tool, you may have to export to another format and then import.

As for video, I have always found the PC to be a better tool. Of course, neither holds a candle to an SGI Octane or similar caliber box :P .

more than just plain looks - so many Mac products exhibit great design
And then there's Mac OS X's Unix underpinnings... ;)

Mac fans are like Jersey people.
They have soo much pride and defend their Macs like they are always being mocked. If you say "Macs Suck." or "Jersey sucks" these people are all over you like free cake at weight watchers...
i never liked using macs and i am not from jersey...

Free cake? Well I'm a pie person, myself. Different strokes, muttdog. ;)

I'm kind of slow with jokes, but wouldn't you not have cake at weight watchers lol? Isn't that contradicting the idea of "losing weight"? This has nothing to do with that...but there was a sex and the city episode one time where Miranda - went to weight watchers that had a Krispie Kremes next door lol.

They dont have cake at weight watchers (i dont think, never really been) but i just generally assumed that people in efforts to lose weight would have a mental and physical predisposition to the enjoyment of cake. Therefore cake in the presence of those who crave such a treat would have a high demand. Hence, "all over you" like " cake at weight watchers" after they quickly devour and get cake everywhere.
Yea so it is a poor joke. I'm an EE, so that's my excuse.
