ok,
1) I bought a domain name from dotster.com called www.greeksociety.com
2)I bought the 2 for 1 deal from hostpc.com today January 27th 2003. I took the $39.90 because of reasons below. I got the paypal confirmation that I paid...I guess I'm waiting for some kind of confirmation from hostpc.com
3) NEXT...well, I don't know what's next...
this is where i need help. I'm just gonna put something on this page for once I know how to get it to go live. Don't really know what to do with it. We'll in order to learn I decided to start here.
thanks,
anything is appreciated. oh, hah, I don't even know html  like I said...this is the only way I'll get myself to learn.
We'll have a Welcome letter sent to you shortly, it'll have all the instructions on publishing your site.
Joe
grrr...minus zero f tonight..wind blowing....
I put my brain in the microwave to try to think.
On the above post when you get your information from hostpc you STEER your domain to hostpc 'nameservers'.
From there you ftp a site up here.
I forget if the control panel stuff here has a file manager.--if you want a workable one ask me..happy to help. With such you edit your site on-board with languages like html. Nothing complicated.
QUESTION..JOE....Does this sale say I can get 700mb 8gb for 39.99??
Thats if I buy a new domain and a new site.
Despite my grumbles about cgi-bin with shepaug.net my primary enjoyment is making simple personal websites.----and hostpc seems to have the best buy on the web....
I know your raising funds and if your gonna disappear you have not yet.(the months I've been here)
The promised 'grandfathering' can it be beat? (at least for a few years when everybody might be selling 1gb sites at 53¢ a year)

Thats correct - thats the terms of this sale.... when you buy a new site hosting package.
We're not "fund raising" - we don't need to. We're a profitable company, thats slowly growing. Our goal isn't to be the biggest, just the best, with one on one attention if necessary. We've been here for 4 yrs - almost 4.5 - we're not going ANYWHERE!

I have steered the nameserver to here. I guess I have to wait for 72 hours.
I'll have a chance to look at the ensim tonite to see what it offers. Still researching on what i can do with this website.
for starter..I'll put "hello world" then I guess I want to make some kind of money off of this.
(start)...........>*rough road*....................>(make some money)
$50 bux a month would be good...but if i get more traffic..then it'll be awesome! *slaps self in the face* well, that's what I'm hoping.
once again...thanks!
hello sam
yes..you are subject to 24 to 72hrs for propagation anytime you change the nameservers
what is the site for..might be able to give you some ideas or other clients might give you some suggestions
thanks

well, there is no real purpose right now..I don't know what to do with it. I guess since it's cheap, I felt like I should put something up.
I don't know, maybe I'll put a forum up for students to use. I haven't researched how many greeks there are in student chapters. Also, I work erattic schedule...I rarely find time to go online. Yes, there is alot of things involved. But, I believe, in a year...I should be able to find something useful for this site.
Any suggestion is good...I like brainstorming ideas...unfortunately, I'm not a webby person. Futunately I can learn ... I got my computer science degree... but it's not to design website.
thanks for the time and input...I'm gonna learn alot.
hello sam
i bought one site...that is what the intent was for..something like a forum for a certain group to talk and discuss at...it has gone by the way side...so not much is there..but if you want to check it out
http://mssmokediver.com
i have found the script im using by searching around on the internet...but there is several others similar like postnuke
or you could just go straight forum...like phpbb
thanks

well, I am thinking about putting up a forum. I hope the $39.90 is good enough...
The forum posted earlier had not much content... that will be my issue also. How to get ppl to come back or sign up and come back.
Thnks.

hello sam
yea..the starter plan should be fine for what you want...if it really blows up and gets REALLY big...we can always upgrade you
do you have a backup of the other forum? you can always use the backup to get it running.

Actually, this is my first venture into making a home page. There is no backup...it's from scratch.
I will be uploading free forums I found online that will match with what technology this company has to offer...like mySQL etc..
so, I will be putting up a forum on school related stuff. For Fraternity and Sorority. I'll focus getting the forum up..then learning how to use it myself....then I will get chapters in my school to plant the seed and register.
after that, I'll do some emailing ...to get other schools involved.
I think in a year..I'll be cool. I don't want to get in a rush. So, I'm gonna take my time. 39bux is a really good deal. thanks!

I'll be damn..does anyone know a free message board to download?
the one I've download doesn't work...or maybe I can't access the files under the folder "forum" until the next day.
I'll guess I'll wait.. but I'll still take a look at other free board if no one minds linking me.
thanks

I agree...I have been admin on other phpBB boards...but the first one I ever actually installed is on a site hosted here ...had it up and running in no time, and there are lots of great skins and other features available to customize your board.

I installed invisionboard a couple of week ago. I like the calender feature. It suites my idea for this site. Does phpbb have calender feature for users? I like the low profile of this board.
thanks for taking the time of previous response.
hello sam
no..not that im aware of...phpbb does not have a calendar feature
any more question..feel free to ask

Hey guys....i'm new to the forum deal.... and I'm trying to put one on my new site. is there any way to take out graphics etc and alter the page? I'm pretty good at HTML etc...just need someone to point me in the right direction. i'm currently using phpbb on www.rizzay.com/forums
Thanks!
-Mark
In phpBB - everything's controlled via templates (very common). This blue and white theme is common, and is called subSilver. I think the directory for it is /forum/templates/subSilver
You'll see several .tpl files in there - like overall_header.tp. - thats where you can change top graphics, etc.
As for the main body, you dont want to play with that one too much... it's pretty involved.
You can find some great themes, and assistance with them at http://www.phpbb.com
