So far things have been going very well here. I find I am learning a few things about web design pretty much every day!

I have a question or two. Basically about Bloging software

I was wondering if anyone has any security tips, because I am considering installing some software and writing some software for my domain.
Also my girlfriend would like to setup her blog on my page, can anyone recommend a good blog application. I am presently considering http://www.bblog.com/about.php
because I know PHP and would like to learn more of it.

For my personal blog I am debating writing my own software if I can find the time, for the sake of my education. (I am still going to probably use someone else’s software for her because I don't want to be abusive :-D )

Something else I just began considering today is using an open source software such as bblog for my blog as well and merely modding it as I go, contributing to the project, rather than reinventing the wheel. I'm not too concerned about language because I can pick up what I don't know (the buggy horror of those first few days though...)

ONE MORE TANGENT!

I am also trying to make my page compliant to standards such as XHTML as is evident by my linking to the standards pages. If anyone has anything to say about that, tips etc let me know.

Sorry for droning on at such length, I'll browse the boards a bit to see if there is anything I can contribute before bed.

My content isn't done yet, so some sections still say coming soon etc

My page is : http://www.erikjones.net
if anyone is interested.

Any comments are highly welcomed.
Thanks for a great experience so far.

Welcome to HostPC Erik!

As for which software to use for blog, I'd recommend Movable Type which is pre-installed on every account and all you have to do is activate it! For more info on this, try http://www.hostpc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=936

I read a review recently which recommended Drupal over Movable Type for ease of installation (less of an issue here with the Ready-Made scripts) and configuration. I would tend to agree with the config aspect, because I had an install of MT for awhile, but hgave up when it proved too difficult to customize. Plus, many of the best features of MT are not core functionality, they require 3rd-party plugins.

Currently, I do my blog input at Blogger and publish it here.
