Ok, so I'm interested in switching hosting providers, and before I choose HostPC, I have a couple of questions.

1)What happens if you go over you alloted bandwidth (I currently have unlimited bandwidth)?

2)How do I keep the same domain name, but switch hosts. My last host registered my domain for me. (My 1 year registration is up in like 2 days. I read the FAQ, but it didn't really make sense to me)?

3)Is it possible to transfer over exisiting saved email when transfering hosts?

thanks

1). If you go over the bandwidth you get a warning and may be charged overage.

2). You'll need to ask your current host which registrar your domain is hosted with and how you can login to change the settings. You need to change the DNS settings to the new addresses that will be included in your welcome email that you will recieve once you become a HostPC customer.

3). I'm assuming you mean email that is saved on the server and the short answer is no. You'll be better off saving it to your computer and then re-sending the emails to yourself if you want to keep it on the server.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

What happens if we wanted to use hostPC to register our domain name, seeing as how you guys are a bunch cheaper. The domain registration is up on the 21st of May. It seems there is some rules against transferring domains from one registrar to another close to the registration's expiration. I guess I'm still a little confused about this. Thanks for the help.

I'd contact your current host and ask them to transfer the ownership of the domainname to you. They most likely will. Then you can use something like GoDaddy (http://www.godaddy.com) to manage it yourself.

That's cheaper yet! (Sorry Joe...)

Hey coolo...do I know you?

What's you're domain name? If we know that we can just do a whois and find out who the registrar is...that being, the registering service that your previous host used...and if it expires in a couple days, it's gonna be a hassle to change cuz of all the locks they put on domains to prevent squatting and such stuff, at least msome do that.

Hmm, matter of fact dB, you do know me. I took your advice from your forums and came here with some questions.

Anyhow, I found out that the registrar is Names4Ever(.com). I'm going to see if I can renew through them directly and then point the DNS over here (once I purchase of course).

Cool, welcome to HostPC...

After you update your DNS, there is a 24-72 hour lag whilst the domain propogates around the 'net...just FYI...so people will start seeing your new site at different times as their ISP flush their DNS cache and so on...

So, I went ahead and purchased the weekend deal, and my previous hosting provider said she has transferred the domain to me, but the registrar was not able to confirm that. Now, I'm just waiting to hear from the registrar so that I can point my domain over here. Just waiting... frustrating.

oh, and good looking out dB.

anytime coolo, you're one of my boys, I always look out for my boys :-)

Yeah, dealling with domains and registrars is probably one of the most frustrating things about web sites...oh, except for the clients...

So, I could use some of that expert service right about now. I tried registering for help desk, but I never received a confirmation email. Anyhow, just having some questions regarding setting up databases and such.

you mentioned that if you go over your bandwidth that you get a warning and may be charged. Can you expand on that? How early do you get a warning, and what are the charges? Can you set it so that when your bandwidth is up that the site is not accessable?

Sure can - your quotas are in the CP - everytime you login you can see exactly where you are for the month...

We can set it to suspend at limit, just let us know.
